Scientific Properties:
The name crystal comes from the greek term for ice, as it was believed that clear quartz was eternally frozen. Quartz is the most widespread of minerals occurring in igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic environments. The diversity of this mineral is such that entire collections devoted to its many sub-varieties. Quartz crystals with internal cavities containing water and air bubbles are very collectable and are known as en-hydros. More than 40 different minerals are known to have occurred as quartz inclusions.
Varieties of quartz include citrine, smokey citrine, amethyst, rose quartz, chrysoprase, jasper, chalcedony, agate, onyx, sardonyx, aventurine, heliotrope and tigers eye.
