Vanadinite forms in masses, barrel- shaped crystals and hollow prismatic crystals. It's colour can range from bright ruby red, orange, yellow, brown-yellow and red-brown. Vanadinite forms as a secondary mineral in oxidised ore deposits containing lead. Vanadium from vanadinite is used to make strong vanadium steels.
